We are happy to welcome you back to the Library. We are offering limited-person services in addition to our enhanced virtual offerings. The safety and health of our patrons and staff is our priority. Thank you for following guidelines and for your patience and flexibility as we move through this time together.
What should I expect when I visit the library?
As of 9/29/20, the Library is now open for browsing. We continue to offer access to our Computer Area, Business Center, and Reference Desk. Appointments are suggested for notary and reference services and can be made online or by calling the Reference Desk at 860-628-0947 x5. Seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis.

Do I need to wear a mask when I come in to the Library?
Masks are recommended regardless of vaccination status.
Is the Library still offering contactless material pickup services?
Yes, our contactless material pickup service is still available by appointment. Pick up area is located inside of our back lobby (back door entrance). After-hours pickup options are available! Please contact the circulation desk at 860-628-0947x2 for more information.
How do I reserve items for contactless material pickup?
Reserve your items via the online catalog or call 860-628-0947x2. Emails will be sent saying to contact the library to schedule your pickup time. We will call you to schedule a time if you do not have an email. Pick up your items at your scheduled pickup day/time on the shelf inside our back lobby.
Are you still accepting book donations?
You may donate items and deposit them in the Friends book donation box located near the electric car charging stations at the back of the library.
How can I keep up to date on what’s happening at the Library?
You can visit us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest information, virtual programming and special announcements. You can also join the Children’s Librarians for all our virtual events for kids by visiting the Southington Library’s Kids Place on our website and on Facebook. Not on social media? Visit our website for the latest information, or sign up for our Library mailing list and receive updates by texting SPL to 22828.
How do I get a library card?
If you do not have a Southington Library card, you can apply online and start using our digital collection and databases right away! CLICK HERE to apply. The Library is now open to help make a library card in person if you prefer: please bring a valid form of photo ID with proof of residency in Southington.
Do I need to be a Southington Library card holder to access your digital collection?
Yes. If you are a Southington resident and you do not have a library card, CLICK HERE to apply.
My library card is expired or is going to expire soon. Can I renew it online?
Yes! Click here to renew your card online.
Can I return my materials in the book drop when the Library is closed?
We accept material returns through our outdoor book drops as well as our book return slot on our outside back wall.
What about borrowed materials from other local libraries?
Items borrowed from other libraries will have different due dates, depending on their owning location rules. You will receive a due date slip when you borrow any items from our on-demand pickup service.
Can I borrow materials from other libraries?
You may now request items that we do not own to be delivered to the Southington Library. Delays are expected due to COVID-19.
When will events at the Library resume?
We are always assessing our options using the latest available health data. Please visit our website and check out our events calendar to see all the programs and take & make kits that we have available. Many programs remain virtual at this time.
Can I meet with my study group or tutor at the library?
Yes. Please keep in mind that seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
Can I make room reservations for future dates?
We are not accepting room reservations at this time.
