Captain Andrew Upson of
Southington, Connecticut, served on the side of the
Union during the Civil War from August 1862 to
February 19, 1864 when he died of wounds received in
battle. During his service he wrote over 140 letters
to his wife, Elizabeth and their children.
These letters are in the archives
at the Barnes Museum and are now available in digital
format. Captain Upson's Civil War Letters are the
